So, I have searched my bookshelves and have compiled a list of the books I own that are on the 1001 list. Out of 1001 books I personally only own 22. At first it seemed like a large amount, but then I compared it to the 979 I will eventually have to purchase to complete my challenge. I say purchase because I am the kind of person who wants to own a book after I read it. Unfortunately, there are many books for which I own, but have not yet to read. Out of the 22, I have completed all the way through, seriously reading, 3. However, for the sake of the project, I am willing to read them over again and document my thoughts.

I have this new obsession with old books. Unfortunately, the closest thing I can get to a used bookstore around here, is a flea market, which, nowadays has more contemporary fictitious novels instead of the literature that I enjoy reading. I had a thought today while discussing Jane Eyre with my high school English teacher/tennis coach. Now that I think back on my high school days, the books for which she assigned, I seemed to revolt against and didn't read. My only logical reasoning I was able to come up with, was the fact that then, I was being TOLD to read them. Now, it is my choice, and have found that I enjoy old English lit so much. While reading Pride and Prejudice, or the parts of Vanity Fair I selected to read, I try to picture myself in the large gown and imagine what it must have been like to dance in the fashions they did in the 16th century. I don't even know what dancing is now. The closest I get is slinging my arms in the air and shaking my hips to the beat. It's not cool, but neither am I.

My other challenge other than reading the books, is possibly finding the books, and not paying top dollar at a chain store. Don't get me wrong, I love Borders books and have catered plenty of my own money to them in the past, but I would love to possibly find a first addition book. Preferably Pride and Prejudice, if it even exist! I do however have a 1959 57th addition of Lord of the Flies. I only thought the date was old, just imagine what the first one is worth. Actually, just in these past couple seconds, I just realized my 1940 For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Earnest Hemingway, is a first addition. 1down. 5 billion to go. Wishful thinking.

If anyone is fortunate enough to know of a used bookstore, anywhere (I'm willing to travel) i would appreciate the tip off. My passion lies with fine literature, music and of course Jesus Christ. I would love nothing more than fulfilling my dream of owning my very own library. Although I already have 4 full bookshelves in my room, I have no idea where I would put the rest. Trust me, I will find a way!!

Welp, this reader/writer is signing off to go read more. Maybe you will do the same!

Best wishes in all your reading endeavors.
